Discover the Seasons

Fenton Lake’s high-altitude setting (7,650-7,900 feet) means every season brings its own magic. Layered clothing is a must for changing temperatures, no matter when you visit.

Spring: The Great Awakening

Watch the park come to life as the snow melts! The Hal Baxter Memorial Cross-Country Ski Trail transforms into a beautiful path for hikers and walkers. It’s also the perfect time to spot wildlife like black bears, mule deer, and coyotes emerging from their winter rest.

Summer: The Peak Getaway

Escape the heat and enjoy a cool summer retreat. This is the busiest time for hiking, fishing, and boating. The trails are fully open, and the lake is buzzing with activity. Be sure to book your camping spot well in advance!

Fall: A Canvas of Color

Experience the mountains in a whole new light as the leaves change into vibrant shades of gold and red. It’s a photographer’s dream! The cooler water makes for fantastic fishing, and the park feels wonderfully quiet and tranquil.

Winter: A Snowy Wonderland

When the snow falls, Fenton Lake turns into a winter paradise. The Hal Baxter trail becomes a dedicated route for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. And for those feeling brave, you might even get to try some ice fishing—just be sure to check with the park office for current safety conditions!
