Silent Upgrade: Why JemezVillage.com Has Been Quiet and What’s Next for the Jemez Community Hub

A Year of Dedication: Rebuilding the Digital Backbone for the Jemez Mountain Area

If you’ve noticed fewer posts lately, it’s not because I’ve stopped caring—it’s because I’ve been building a better foundation. For the past year, the development of JemezVillage.com has been an intense labor of love, a journey through technical challenges, financial hurdles, and a deep re-evaluation of the mission.

The silence has been the sound of innovation. I have been working tirelessly on a custom upgrade designed specifically for the unique needs of our local Jemez Springs and surrounding Jemez Mountains communities.

Re-evaluating the Vision: Understanding Our Community’s Needs

When I started this project, I had a grand vision. Now, after approximately 1,500 hours of focused development—all while navigating the current economy and juggling family life—I have a much clearer, more refined understanding of the local landscape.

The initial plan assumed more people would step forward to contribute content, allowing me to focus solely on development. The reality, however, was different. This challenge forced a pivot: instead of adding more manpower, I needed to build a smarter, more efficient system that could practically run itself.

SEO Success: JemezVillage.com is AI-Ready and Climbing the Ranks

The good news is that the foundational work I’ve already done is paying off significantly. The initial strategy—to build a comprehensive “web of information” and an authoritative source for the Jemez mountain area—was the right move.

In the new age of AI search engines, being a trusted source is paramount. We are proud to report that:

  • Search Engine Authority: We are watching JemezVillage.com crawl to the top of search engine rankings for key local terms.
  • AI Validation: AI models are now using our site for daily references, validating our content quality and structure.
  • Lodging Success: The JemezVillage.com Lodging page received over 100 hits, while not a lot of traffic, it shows that the SEO is working since I have not yet got a local lodger to get back to me yet. While the Jemez Springs Lodger’s Tax contributed to JemezVillage.com and I was dedicated to helping the local lodger’s, I was unable to make contact with a local lodger that wanted to participate on JemezVillage.com.
  • Event Visibility: Local event pages have accumulated over 12,000 total views between JemezVillage.com traffic, google events, and Facebook.
  • Local Commerce: The Trail Sale Page saw over 550 page views on that single event weekend, Andy’s Liquors found through “liquor near me” is the top local business found on JemezVIllage.com, followed by Amanda’s Jemez Mountain Country Store found through “Amandas Jemez Store” search engines.
  • Top Neighborhoods: Cuba was the #1 neighborhood by views followed by Thompson Ridge Estates, Sierra Los Pinos, and then La Cueva.
  • Engaged Audience: Our email subscriptions boast an exceptional 70% open rate and a 50% click rate. Average views per users was 3 pages per session. There was 12k page views since May months with a average of 2k viewers per month, 74% direct users, 13% from organic searches.

Automation Power: Built-in Tools Driving Traffic

The existing site is already packed with features designed for efficiency and traffic generation:

  • Automated Marketplaces: Vendor products automatically upload to Google Market, Facebook Market, and Pinterest, driving consistent outside traffic.
  • Event Synchronization: Events are automatically added to Google Calendar, and with the use of structured data (Schemas), event links can be dropped into any social media platform to instantly create a full event post—saving hours of repetitive work.
  • Community Support Systems: The site is fully set up for secure donations, selling local goods, and mutual support. It includes a project management system (like Asana), a booking system, and a full self-managed e-commerce platform for vendors.

The Upgrade: Building a Custom Ecosystem

While the current platform has been successful, its complexity (juggling multiple interconnected systems) has become a drain. The continuous maintenance—4 hours for weekly articles each, 5 to 6 hours a week for posting events from 20+ sources, constant software conflict resolution, and technical support—is unsustainable.

To truly make this project a success, I’ve decided to stop using multiple, resource-heavy systems and instead develop my own custom system. This new platform will have the same powerful features but without the unnecessary bloat, dramatically reducing load times and server resources. THis will allow a better experience for the local community.

Upcoming Features for the New JemezVillage.com Platform

I am currently working out the bugs in the base member, directory, and event systems. This unique system is designed to tie together everything the Jemez community needs into one cohesive hub.

Here is a glimpse of what’s coming:

  • Custom Member Profiles (The New Social Hub): Reminiscent of the early web, member pages can be set to private, family/friends, neighborhood-only, or public. Members can display portfolios, services, interests, social posts, and items for sale/rent—making the site truly interactive.
  • Advanced Organization & Business Directory: For-profit and non-profit entities can manage their own comprehensive directory page, including e-commerce options for products, services, or donations. Features will include contact forms, business hours, maps, galleries, and more.
  • Automated Event Systems: Future development will focus on custom automation to seamlessly pull events from sources like Facebook and Google, drastically cutting down on manual input time.
  • Property Management Tools: Specialized features like an HOA system and water system software will allow neighborhoods to manage dues, invoice homeowners for well usage, and accept online payments.

Back to Business: The Future is Automated and Community-Centric

I am incredibly proud of the foundation I’ve created, but I am even more excited to finish this upgrade. My time has been focused on working on the site, not in the site. Once the base systems are stable, I will be back to consistent articles, features, and events.

The hard work is about to transition into effortless operation. Thank you for your patience and for being part of the JemezVillage.com journey.

  1. Wow, excellent work Damian. I guess the trick is to preserve the uniqueness of the area but giving those who live here the opportunity to benefit from current technology. Glad your here to help make that happen.

  2. I think your hard work and dedication is increasingly obvious. I know myself and many others greatly appreciate it and are eager to see what comes of it in the next few years. One of these days I’ll have some amazing content to contribute. :p
