Hummingbird Music Camp
Just past Area 3 and the Soda Dam, the road winds deeper into the Jemez National Recreation Area. Since 1958, this high-mountain retreat has been a sanctuary for music, art, and creative writing.
Tucked away in the Santa Fe National Forest along the Cebolla Creek, Hummingbird offers a cool mountain escape where the natural acoustics of the canyon provide the perfect backdrop for learning. It is a vital piece of the Jemez landscape and a cherished neighbor to everyone in the North Corridor.
Jemez Valley North Corridor
If you live on Highway 4 just past Soda Dam, heading towards Hummingbird Music Camp, you probably know about Area 1, Area 2, and Area 3. These are just ways locals talk about the different little neighborhoods along that stretch.
- Area 1: Right by Soda Dam: This is the closest area to the Soda Dam. You’ve got great views of the river and the rock dam. It’s a bit closer to going back down to Jemez Springs if you need anything.
- Area 2: The Middle Ground: Keep driving north, and you’re likely in Area 2. It’s a more settled, quiet part with houses spread out. People here enjoy the peaceful mountain feel.
- Area 3: Almost to Hummingbird: As you get closer to Hummingbird Music Camp, that’s often called Area 3. You might hear music in the summer, and it’s a pretty spot as you head further into the mountains.
The Neighborhood
What’s it like living there?
It’s pretty chill. People who live in these areas love being surrounded by nature. You’re close to hiking, the river, and all the cool stuff the Jemez has to offer. It’s a bit quieter than being right in Jemez Springs, but you still have neighbors and a sense of community. You’ll see folks out walking, maybe fishing, and just enjoying the beautiful scenery. It’s a great place if you like peace and being close to the outdoors.
